Molecular Phylogenetics of the Orchid Genus Spathoglottis (Orchidaceae: Collabieae) in Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo

Phylogenetic relationships of the orchid genus Spathoglottis (Orchidaceae: Collabieae) in Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo were inferred using internal transcribed spacer a nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrITS), plastid gene maturaseK (matK) region trnL-F. Eleven species three infraspecific taxa examined, with two outgroup species, included phylogenetic analysis. The combined data revealed as monophyletic. From maximum likelihood, parsimony Bayesian analyses, is divided into four major groups which are, (1) Dwarf Purple Spathoglottis, (2) Yellow (3) Large (4) Spathoglottis. split might reflect an early differentiation plant size, flower colours size. Phylogeny reconstruction also exhibited strong support towards taxonomic delimitation mostly debated genus, S. aurea microchilina.
